KALMAN SAFFRAN ASSOCIATES APPOINTS LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES INNOVATOR TO PROMOTE GROWTH

William G. Scheerer joins KSA as special advisor to the president on matters of global expansion and business development

Newton, Mass., January 7, 1998 — Kalman Saffran Associates (KSA), a leading developer of state-of-the-art products for the data communications, telecommunications and interactive/CATV industries, today announced that William G. Scheerer has joined KSA as advisor to the president. Mr. Scheerer was formerly vice president and CIO for Lucent Technologies.

A telecommunications and data communications industry veteran, Mr. Scheerer will be involved in business development and global expansion. Mr. Scheerer will be responsible for advising KSA on how to reach new clients and on new service and technology needs in the industry. He will report directly to Kalman Saffran, president and founder of KSA.

Mr. Scheerer has more than three decades of technical and management experience in the communications industry. For more than 30 years he held positions of increasing responsibility with AT&T (now Lucent) Bell Laboratories. In the 1990s, he organized and led a Bell Labs consulting and technology organization that supported AT&T and its customers globally. Most recently he served as Infrastructure Operations vice president in Lucent’s CIO organization, responsible for supporting the information technology needs for this leading telecommunications company.

In addition to his many years of distinguished service at Lucent/Bell Labs, Mr. Scheerer serves on the boards of directors of LeCroy Corporation and GenRad Inc., and he previously served on the boards of the Information Communication Institute of Singapore and Lawrence General Hospital. Mr. Scheerer has been a speaker at many industry trade forums including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the World Design Forum, as well as at other international conferences, universities and symposia. Mr. Scheerer served as a lieutenant in the United States Army Security Agency. He holds a master’s in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Syracuse University and is a graduate of the senior executive program from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
